Possibly a Waterloo war trophy bring back by a British soldier. The date on the spine is gone but may have been removed by the French soldier as it could have said "royal" rather then "imperial"; the poinçons indicate it was made from May 1815 onwards (to 6th February 1819). The cutting edge has many, many nicks, some may be period but not all in our opinion. But still, this a Napoleonic era French sword and may well have been at Waterloo, brought back as a battlefield trophy.

The 23 inch blade is in good but worn condition, aside from the nicks, and firm in the hilt. The brass hilt has been zealously cleaned to the point the markings are no longer clear, but is good / sound.

Iconic Napoleonic era sword. Just £350. Please quote item reference T42. Further / full sized images upon request. Box 0760-0.82 (1.330)
