1845P Victorian British Field Officer's Sword,
Sold |
In good condition, an 1845P Victorian British Field Officer's
Sword.
Fullered blade with folding guard = 1845 pattern. This example
bears the retailer's details "Hopkinson 64 Pall Mall London".
The sword has been later rotary sharpened on one side but within
the so called sharpening ridge along the edge so, with some care
and a sharpening wet stone should improve significantly. The steel
scabbard has seen the test of time (probably in an attic) but has
protected the blade well.
The 32 1/4 inch blade is in very good condition except for sharpening
on side, and firm in the hilt. The brass hilt is very good for age,
very little warping / deviation (unlike most gothic hilts). Grip
very good, as are the grip bindings. Steel scabbard has patina and
pitting. Sword sheathes and draws well. Folding guard section of
guard works well.
A nice example with scope to improve; yours for £? (too late,
now sold). Please quote item reference S74 (0692). Further / full
sized images available upon request.
