Serial number 14486, blade etched / dated 12.12.1915 under the inscription for Engineer Lieutenant J Gordon Cheyne RN; probably the date of his commissioning.

The 30 1/4 inch blade was once 30 1/2 inches but has had the tip made safe (rounded) as many officers returning to civilian life and families did. Blade in generally very good condition, grey etching clear, firm in the hilt. The hilt brass / gilt dull through age, the grip a little aged / grubby but in good order, as are the twisted grip wire bindings. Knot is aged and has lost its "acorn". Leather and brass fittings scabbard good for age. The sword sheathes and draws well. Folding guard section works and locates properly onto scabbard retaining pin.

Plenty of research potential. A bargain at just £400. Please quote item reference S62. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 0680-1m (1.985).
