19th Century Silver Hilted Vietnamese Guom
Sword, For Sale
In aged condition, a rare 19th Century Silver Hilted Vietnamese
See acid silver test below; the pommel has clearly a high silver
content. The knucklebow part of the guard; we can not determine
if there is a section missing or if it was originally made this
way (part open).
The 23 1/4 inch blade is aged, has some inert rust bubbles, and
the tip area has a fair amount of corrosion, but is still generally
sound and firm in the hilt. The hilt is very well decorated, the
horn grip with obvious repairs. The scabbard has lost its once fine
covering to expose the wood below. The mounts look also to be high
silver content. The original sword knot is very aged but sound and
a huge bonus. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Look, this is not the best example but good, and Guom sell for
many thousands. So our price of £850 is very good indeed.
