1843 Model Dutch Naval Officer's Sword, M.
Pauwels & Cie, Sold
In very good condition, a rare 1843 Model Dutch Naval Officer's
Sword by M. Pauwels & Cie of Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
A pre 1884 Dutch naval officer's sword. We seen a 1843M guard alone
being sold as a spare part for €120 elsewhere, such is this
The 27 inch blade with feint etching is in very good condition,
the tip rounded (we are certain this was to make it safe when the
officer retired, rather than damage per say) and a little movement
in the hilt. The hilt in very good shape with plenty of gilt remaining.
The ivory grip very good but for a chip missing under the pommel.
The scabbard good, the leather a little aged and the fittings a
little loose, but very good age. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A superb looking sword from when the Dutch were a naval force to
be reckoned with. Well worth our price tag of £? (too late,
now sold). Please quote item reference R74 (0565). Further / full
sized images available upon request.
