A French Model 1866 "Chassepot" Yataghan Sword Bayonet,
St Etienne, April 1873.
Inscribed "Mre d' Armes de St. Etienne Avril (April) 1873"
to the spine, the iconic French Model 1866 "Chassepot"
Yataghan Sword Bayonet saw many conflicts involving the French,
some were still in service during WW1.
The 22 /12 inch blade is in good condition but for a couple or
so of period nicks to the cutting edge. Blade firm in hilt. Hilt
with serial number P 71819 is in aged but good condition; the muzzle
locking pin mechanism is tight but works. Scabbard serial number
Z 76770 has some light rust pitting but is overall good. The bayonet
sheathes and draws well.
