This has the remains of (non-tablet form) etching with Victorian crown and a pipe back blade but no frog button to the upper scabbard fitting, so it dates from 1837 to 1845.

The 29 7/8 inch blade shows the sword was bought with the prospect of close (ship) quarters use still possible. Blade in worn and rust patched condition, but strong / sound; remains of etching, firm in hilt. The hilt overall good for age, the folding guard section works well (no locking pin - this sword pre-dates the implementation of locking pins). The fishskin grip is very good, as are the twisted grip wire bindings. The leather of the scabbard aged and cracked, the metal fittings worn. The sword sheathes and draws well.

A nice example from a great era in Rule Britannia. It can be yours for £550. Please quote item reference R47. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 0529-1m (1.740).
