The maker's name "Harvey" still just visible to the forte. This is an exceptionally rare sword. The British did not have designated heavy cavalry (cuirassiers) mid-18C but Dragoon Guards (and the Household Cavalry). But these were big men on big horses and this is a big, heavy sword.

The 36 inch blade is in solid / sound condition, but aged and with some light rust, and firm in the hilt. The hilt with some rust especially to the inside of the guard (now treated) but is solid (small fracture to one bar). The leather grip maybe original or maybe a period replacement, but is clearly old / aged (but sound).

A rare sword at a good price; £1250. Please quote item reference R43. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 0535-1.18 (2.260).
