1821 Pattern British Light Cavalry Trooper's
Sabre, For Sale
In very good condition, an 1821 Pattern Sargant of Birmingham
made British Light Cavalry Trooper's Sabre.
Absolutely no markings to the sword but with "W L & H
Sargant" (trading style from 1838 to 1839) to the scabbard,
this sword was probably made as a manufacturer's sample, a campaign
sword for a British cavalry officer or for export (in 1839 W L &
H Sargant made 600 1821P's for the US Ordnance Department).
The 35 1/2 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the
hilt. The steel hilt / guard with some light pitting and a steady
patina. The grip is original with a little age but generally very
good (well above average). The original manufacturer chemically
browned scabbard has suffered less from damp due the browning and
is in very good condition. The sword and scabbard have been painted
black at some stage, probably more recently than not, only some
traces remaining (easily removed). The sword sheathes and draws
well if a little loosely.
Probably the best condition original authentic 1821P trooper's
sword you will ever find, and by a high quality Birmingham maker.
