1845P Senior Victorian British Infantry Officer's
Sword, for sale
In good condition, 1845 pattern Senior Victorian British Infantry
Officer's Sword, etched / named to W Young, esquire. This item has
now been reserved under our layaway program; hold expires 18th September,
A senior officer's sword courtesy of the brass scabbard. This 1845
pattern (folding guard with fullered blade) is etched to W Young
and he could well be researched given this model was superceded
in 1854, so you only need to research 1845 to 1854.
The 32 1/2 inch blade is in good condition with etching very clear
except for the maker's / retailer's name etched to the ricasso,
which we can not determine whose name it is. The "gothic"
hilt / guard is good for this pattern as brass lacks the strength
of steel, so they are often damaged. The folding section of the
guard works well. The fishskin grip is good but with some wear /
a tiny area of nodule loss; the twisted grip wire is overall good.
The brass scabbard has suffered as most do, with some bending /
dings. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A well above average example with research potential for only £500.
