British WW1 Royal Navy Officer's Sword, A Murphy

Sales enquiries

All we know about A Murphy is that there is a record that he received the 1914 Star, so he was serving with the Royal Navy at the start of WW1. You can research Royal Naval officers here.

The 31 1/2 inch blade is in good condition except for some large patina splodges at the point end, and some general wear to blade, but overall very good and firm in the hilt. The hilt is very good, with gilt remaining. The grip in very good condition as are the twisted grip wire bindings. The sword knot very good for age. The leather of the scabbard has lost some surface here and there but is good; the brass fittings have lost their gilt. The locking pin mechanism / folding guard section works well. The all weather bag is aged but sound.

A well above average example and quite rare in that it has George V's cypher to the blade (most did not, they simply had the British Royal Coat of Arms). Yours for £700. Please quote item reference Q73. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 0400-1m (2.166).
