French Version 1837 Infantry Briquet, for
In overall good though aged, a scarce French Version 1837 Infantry
The subject of hot debate as to whether the "V" stands
for Versailles, Verified (vérifié) or Version. I am
certain it is not Versailles and believe it to be Version. But you
make up your own mind. It is a scarce sword in any event. The poinçons
indicate that Thiebaut was the maker of this one.
The 23 1/4 inch blade is sound but with some rust patches, and
is firm in the hilt. Brass hilt and grip overall good but with some
wear. The scabbard has age, shrunk a little and the seam stitching
is coming apart, but is overall sound. The sword sheathes and draws
Nit many around. Bag this one for only £225. Please quote
item reference Q62. Further / full sized images available upon request.
