WW1 Kings Own Scottish Borderers Field Officers Sword

Sales enquiries

A scarce example of a WW1 Scottish infantry field officer's sword, hilt with the badge of The King's Own Scottish Borderers, the blade with stamped "Proved" (rather than having a brass proof slug) indicates that the sword was made circa 1917.

The 32 5/8 inch blade has been over cleaned so the etching is really feint, plus it has suffered from rust pitting and the point tip has been damaged. Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt guard with some rust spots but overall good. The crimson with blue edging hilt insert is well aged. The fishskin grip and twisted grip wire bindings are all generally good. The field leather scabbard is marked with initials "J H C" to the leather and "188" to the scabbard throat piece. The scabbard is in overall good condition, the chape with corrosion one side, some black staining / streaking near the chape, the sword is very tight when full sheathed.

The blade is the weak point, but sheathed this makes a very fine display piece. Good value at £750. Please quote item reference Q47. Further full / sized images available on request. Box 0361-1.18m (2.981).
