WW2 British SAS Officer's Presentation Sword

Sales enquiries

The sword bears the etched inscription "Presented by Capt. J. H. H. Robinson January 1939". Capt J H Robinson, originally with the Hampshire Regiment reaching the rank of adjutant, served with the 21st (Artists) SAS Regiment Signal Squadron which actually was an Officers Training Corps for the SAS during WW2, so this sword was likely presented to an SAS officer after they finished training. Capt J H Robinson went on to serve after the war with Royal Army Education Corps, retiring in 1965. We do not know who this sword was presented to unfortunately. The forte / ricasso being etched "Conway Williams, Military Outfitter, 48 Brook Street, W 1", a renowned outfitter associated with officers from several elite regiments.

The 32 1/4 inch blade is in exceptionally good condition, a small spot of patina to the spine away from the etching, and the tiniest fleck near the retailer's name; the etching is still very good. Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt in very good condition, a small bubble spot under the acorn of the sword knot, which knot is in good shape. The grip also very good, only a small strand of twisted grip wire slightly astray; hardly noticeable. The leather scabbard in very good condition; the sword sheathes and draws very well. The all weather / carry bag has lost its hood and is aged but sound.

A lovely example. Yours for £900. Please quote item reference P92. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 0285-1m (2.195).
