ERII British Royal Naval Officer's Sword,
sold |
In very good even parade ground condition ERII British RN officer's
sword, scabbard & sword knot.
Not maker marked. In VGC, a good Queen Elizabeth 2nd etched Royal
Navy officer's sword with pleasing and also slightly unique eggshell
finish blade (this was made like this, and the finish is very attractive).
A few little signs of wear, but pretty much in parade ground condition
(could use a little careful cleaning / maintenance).
The 31 inch blade is well grey etched, a little spot of rust along
the spine but hardly noticeable. Blade firm in hilt. The hilt retaining
much gilt finish. The fishskin grip appears very much to be real
fishskin (most ERII swords have faux fishskin) and is in very good
condition (some slight use evident). The grip wires a little tarnished
(can be cleaned), one minor strand a little astray (can easily be
reglued back into place). The folding guard a little loose and the
pin that holds it together protrudes a tiny amount (may well always
have done). Folding guard locates onto the retaining pin on the
top locket of the scabbard well. Sword knot overall very good. The
leather and gilt metal scabbard also very good. The sword sheathes
and draws well but the lining at the throat could benefit from a
spot of glue (one internal side lining at the top is very slightly
astray, but nothing serious).
A nice sword for either a collector or serving officer. Our price
is only £(too late - sold! but we can divulge the original
sellling price for a small fee). Please quote reference number O71
(1387). Further / full sized pictures available upon request.
