WW1 era British Royal Navy Reserve Officer's
Sword, Sold |
In very good condition, a WW1 British Royal Navy Reserve officer's
sword, JJ Rayner of Liverpool
Etched at the ricasso to "JJ Rayner and Sons 24 Lord Street
Liverpool" which predates the sword to before 1914 (as the
firm became Miller, Rayner & Haysom in 1914), but after 1902
(it has a post 1902 crown to the hilt), so almost certainly a WW1
sword in the truest sense. A scarce RNR sword (much scarcer than
a RN sword).
The lovely grey etched 31 inch blade is in very good condition
for a naval blade, and firm in the hilt. The hilt very good, with
almost all gilt remaining. The fishskin grip and twisted grip wire
bindings also very good. The scabbard with some age. The sword sheathes
and draws very well.
A lovely well above average and complete example. Please quote
item reference M05 (1234). Further / full sized images available
upon request.
