1908P WW1 British Cavalry Trooper's Sword,
Sold |
In good condition, a World War One (dated July 1912) British cavalry
trooper's Wilkinson sword.
In good condition with stress fracture patina (those squiggly little
black lines, which can clean out, that show otherwise invisible
tiny fracture lines that come when the sword has met its target
- the black rust / patina highlighting them). A sought after Wilkinson
Sword, made in 1912 that has several acceptance marks which shows
it has moved around and may indicate the stress fractures came from
WW1 combat duty). The sword with later replacement scabbard eventually
ending up at the West Somerset County School (WW1 junior officer
training facility), again indicating the sword was retired from
active front line service because of a combat hit (cavalry were
still used to effect at the beginning of the war).
The 34 3/4 inch blade is in good condition but with the fracture
crazing patina lines. Firm in the hilt, the bowl guard is good though
a little misshapen as you would and should expect, the pommel cap
a tad loose (not the guard, just the pommel cap which is common).
The grip is in very good shape. Steel scabbard (dated 1916) good;
the sword sheathes and draws very well.
An evocative investment at only £xxx. Please quote item reference
number K28 (1155). Further / full sized images upon request.
