French 1816 Model Cuirassier / Heavy Cavalry
Trooper's Sword, sold |
In exceptionally good condition, a scarce 1816M French heavy cavalry
(Cuirassier) sword, dated March 1822.
No, it is not an 1822M, it is a much more desirable and rarer 1816M;
the round 3 bar finales and raised guard edging is the giveaway.
Guaranteed authentic, the poinçons (inspection stamps) of
Joseph Victor Guidonnet, Jean-Georges Bick and Louis François
Lobstein are correct for the date.
The almighty 38 3/4 inch blade is in very good condition and firm
in the hilt. The brass hilt is equally good; really impressive too.
The original leather grip and twisted grip wire bindings are very
good, as is the heavy steel scabbard. The sword sheathes and draws
very well.
A superb well above average example of a scarce sword. In fact,
we do not think you will find better, especially for only £xxx.
