Early 1900's British Royal Naval Reserve Officer's Sword (sold)

In very good condition for its age, a scarce Edwardian possibly George 5th, British Royal Naval Reserve officer's sword with scabbard, knot and all weather cover, Liverpool marked.

RNR swords are actually much rarer than RN swords. In addition, most swords from this era and before are often in very poor condition; this example is well above average and has its original scabbard, sword knot and all weather cover to make it even more collectible. Etched at the ricasso to former Liverpool naval outfitter JJ Rayner & Sons, 24 Lord Street.

Slightly curved 31 3/4 inch blade is very nicely etched, in very good condition (a couple of back patina areas) and is firm in the hilt. The hilt is equally good, some gilt remaining, the fishskin grubby but complete (may clean up), the twisted grip wire bindings present and correct, the sword knot in good order as is the gilt metal and leather scabbard (the blade sheathes and draws well, the folding locking section and pin are as they should be and locate properly), a small gap at the top of the scabbard (to the hilt) when sheathed due to the original blade stop having gone (the little bit of fabric that protects the hilt from the scabbard hitting it), the top section of the all weather bag separated from the stem (can be re-sown together) and in generally worn but good condition.
