1895 Pattern Grey Etched British Infantry
Officer's Sword, Sold |
A well above average 1895P grey etched Victorian British infantry
officer's sword.
In overall good condition, the 1895P is the rarer predecessor to
the 1897P that remains the current model to this day. This example
has the exceptionally nice grey etching to the blade.
There is no maker's mark to the blade but only a few of the very
best blade makers could have produced this 32 1/2 inch blade. The
blade sheathes and draws very well and is firm in the hilt. The
front of the hilt is good to very good, a small rust patch to one
edge. The inside of the hilt is speckled with rust, which I have
duly treated. The fishskin and twisted grip wire bindings are all
there and in good general order. The plated steel scabbard is nice
and bright except for a rust patch further down one side and a ding
the other. A great sword for £? (too late, now sold), truly.
