Capt. A. G. Lilley, R.N. had a history with Australia (see press clippings further below). Serial number 56718 for 1919, this sword was made by Wilkinson and retailed through Gieves, the famous naval outfitter of Portsmouth, other Royal Navy port towns and London.

The 31 3/4 inch slender dress weight (piquet) blade has a couple of smaller but quite deep inert rust patches, otherwise aged but good and firm in the hilt. The hilt with tarnish but overall good. The fishskin grip is good, some tarnish to and lesser strand loss to the twisted grip wire bindings. Sword knot is grubby but sound, a small section missing. The leather of the scabbard has a break / kink that has been taped (section is floppy) and another not so bad link. The folding guard section locates well onto the top scabbard locket securing pin. The sword sheathes and draws well.

Plenty of Australian connection and research potential. Yours for £350. Please quote item reference AE33. Further / full sized pictures available upon request. Box 0791-1m (1.640).
