Victorian Scottish Rifle Regiment General Officer's Broadsword

Sales enquiries

The Claymore blade and scabbard ball chape confirm this is a Scottish rifle regiment officer's sword. The oak leaf reef border to the strung bugle and Victorian crown to the guard's cartouche confirm this sword was the property of a Victorian general officer. Further, as the grip is black leather and the blade sharpened, the officer was clearly very hands on and indicates active service at some time including and between the Crimean and Boer Wars.

The 30 3/8 inch plain Claymore blade is both in good condition and a testament to the importance / individuality of the original owner general officer, indicates early Victorian rather than more regulated late, and is firm in the hilt of course. The steel hilt / guard all very good, as is the original black leather grip which shows this was no dress sword (as it does not use fishskin). The steel scabbard with some age but generally very good. The thick / chunky sword know is nice but probably a replacement. The sword sheathes and draws well if a little loosely.

I doubt you will ever get a chance to buy one again, so what are you waiting for? Grab it quick before it is gone. Price: £1200. Please quote item reference AE17. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 0675-1m (2.011).
