WW2 Japanese Army Officer's Civilian Katana
for Military Use, Sold |
In overall good condition (some nicks and tip damage / loss),
a WW2 Japanese Army Officer's Civilian Katana for Military Use.
Some Japanese army officers bought so called "civilian"
katanas early on in the war but with military saya / scabbards;
this is one such katana and the tsuba is a well known example for
these. It has a post-1926 / pre-1942 Showa stamp, so the blade is
not gendaito.
The 26 inch nagasa (cutting edge section) blade is in overall condition
but has lost the very tip, has some small nicks and a couple of
scuffs; all reported to us as period. The sword generally is good,
though some of the ito near the kabuto-gane / pommel one side is
coming adrift. Saya / scabbard mostly good but kurikata (knob) gone.
The sword sheathes and draws well.
A superb sword, yours for £? (too late, now sold). Please
quote item reference AE13 (0672). Further / full sized images available
upon request.
