WW1 era British Royal Naval Officer's Sword,
In very good condition, a WW1 era British Royal Naval Officer's
No maker's or retailer's name to the blade, so most likely 1917/1918
date wise. The blade was covered in what was possibly the original
grease applied to a new blade (it is quite likely this sword never
reached its intended officer). Stamped with serial number 1527 to
the blade's spine.
The 31 1/2 inch blade is in very good condition, some slight marking
towards the tip but nothing much / more. Blade firm in the hilt,
which is also good. White fishskin grip and twisted grip wire bindings
are both in very good shape for their age. Original sword knot good.
The scabbard has suffered; the patent / gloss surface of the leather
has come off leaving a felt like leather remaining. The folding
guard section of the hilt works and locates well onto the scabbard
pin. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Very good condition overall, so well worth £? (too late,
now sold). Please quote item reference AD46 (0501). Further / full
sized images upon request.
