Waterloo French Heavy Cavalry Trooper's Sword, Klingenthal March 1815

Sales enquiries

A really good French heavy cavalry trooper's sword, clearly a Battle of Waterloo trophy as the sword was bought from a IK (deceased's) estate sale, the point has been converted to spear point, and all the Poinçons are / can be pre-Waterloo (if it stayed in French service, the hilt would have been replaced in 1816 to the new model or fresh inspection poinçons would have been added. Guaranteed authentic, the poinçons and date inscription to the blade's spine are correct.

The 37 5/8 inch blade is in good condition and firm in the hilt. The hilt is generally very good, some slight bending (nothing much, and a sign of battle wear). The grip has its original leather grip covering but it is aged and has been glued along the seam at some stage. The grip wire is missing (an amateur handyman can easily make a replacement - happy to provide details on how to the buyer if required). The period (chemically) browned solid steel scabbard is in good condition and the sword sheathes / draws well.

A mighty and impressive authentic Waterloo war trophy. Yours for £1400. Please quote item reference AD15. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 0418-1.18 (3.083).
