This is an authentic Waterloo French An XIII Cuirassier Sword, guaranteed. If you want a great show piece (many of these swords, being over 200 years old, show their age as you would expect), this is it. Although many people would not be able to spot the fact that one has been professionally refurbished; the brass hilt has been gilted, the grip leather and grip wire replaced, and the steel scabbard re-browned. Because we deal with so many of these, we can tell. But the sword is consequently absolutely stunning and has been refurbished very, very well.

The sword is clearly a Waterloo battleground pick-up / 100 Days War trophy as there are no post 1815 poinçons / the sword has not been modified (most An XIII's that stayed in French service had the new 1816 hilt fitted). It is difficult to see the scabbard rack / serial number as the scabbard has been re-browned, but is appears to be different (we can make out the number "1") which would strongly suggest the sword was a battlefield pick-up later married up with a captured scabbard (rather than a post battle surrendered sword).

The 37 3/4 inch blade is in very good condition, marked Imperial Klingenthal November 1811, and firm in the hilt. The hilt looks spectacular and is in very good order. The leather grip and twisted grip wire bindings are in excellent condition. The heavy steel scabbard has a light pitting which has been faithfully re-browned (the French chemically browned their scabbards). The sword sheathes and draws very well.

A stunning authentic Waterloo French heavy cavalry sword. Well worth price tag; £1700. Please quote item reference number AD14. Further / full sized pictures available upon request. Box 0432-1.18 (3.416).
