Almost certainly Boer War due to the field service scabbard and belts, plus later Victorian (more rounded, rather than flattened) hilt bars. The blade has age and the etching is feint, but it does not look like there was ever a maker's or retailer's name etched to the ricasso, which may indicate a more hurried supply commensurate with war time realities. The proves brass slug has an "S" which most likely means the sword was made by Sanderson in Birmingham.

The 31 13/16 inch blade is in very sound condition but has patina and worn etching throughout. Blade firm in hilt. The hilt generally very good but with some age staining, etc. The fishskin grip in very good condition but has lost its associated grip wire bindings. The leather and metal fittings scabbard overall very good, the straps with creases / cracking / age, but sound. The sword sheathes and draws well.

A good honest example of a Boer War Scottish broadsword. Yours for £1000. Please quote item reference AC72. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 0333-1.18 (2.590).
