Rare Clipped Point French Napoleonic Wars An XIII Heavy Cavalry Trooper's Sword

Sales enquiries

Originally found in Spain, most likely therefore one of the many weapons discarded by the French as they ran / retreated from the Peninsular War. This sword has the original clipped point blade (most were converted to spear point just before Waterloo).

The 38 inch clipped point blade is pitted throughout; the spine's date inscription no longer visible, only one poinçon visible (though not legible). Blade firm in the hilt. The Versailles hilt sound but grubby. The original leather grip aged with some separation at the joint. The grip wire absent. No scabbard.

A nice piece of history for just £525. Please quote item reference AC59. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 0317-1.18 (2.309).

The An XI / XIII is, for us, the most effective and stylish heavy cavalry sword ever made. It is also afflicted with much false conjecture stated as fact, and is also one of the most faked / reproduced swords on the market (we 100% guarantee our swords are not reproductions / fakes). We have written an article on the subject here.
