French An XIII / Prussian 1815M Cuirassier
/ Kuerassier Sword, For Sale
In good condition, a scarce French Napoleonic An XIII Cuirassier
Trooper's Sword, captured and modified by the Prussians to become
a Prussian 1815M Kuerassier sword, with Prussian scabbard marked
to the 5th (West Prussian) Kuerassiers.
This An XIII was almost certainly captured by the Prussian during
of the 6th Coalition (1813-1814). The original blade (hatchet)
point has been modified but not in the French manner; it is still
a form of hatchet point. The blade is inscribed to Klingenthal and
dated February 1811 with the correct poinçons
for Marion Claude, Jean-Georges Bick and Francois Louis Lobstein.
The poinçons on the outward facing side of the knucklebow
have been polished / rubbed out. The Prussian scabbard is marked
"5. K. 4. 64." (5th Kuerassier Regiment, Troop 4, Weapon
64), who took an active part in the War of the 6th Coalition.
The 37 3/4 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the
hilt. The hilt also very good. The leather grip good but missing
almost all of its twisted grip wire (easy enough to make at home
with a vice and slow drill). The chemically browned scabbard is
good. The sword sheathes and draws well if a little loosely.
