A lovely sword in that it has the city crest for Recklinghausen on the frontal langet. Nice too that it is etched "Bürgerschützen Recklinghausen" (Recklinghausen rifle company) one side, Bürgersinn, Einigkeit, Vaterlandsliebe (Citizenship, unity, love for the fatherland) on the obverse. Clearly each officer bought the same sword as it is numbered to the scabbard; in this case number "11". Complete with original sword knot (portapee), this sword (no maker's mark visible under the langets) is in very good condition and still sheathes and draws as if it were new.

The 31 3/4 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The steel hilt and grip also very good. The hilt and grip with some age and wear, but not too much. The plated steel scabbard in good condition. The portapee aged but sound.

Really, a beautiful sword and city marked. Don;t wait on this one; yours for £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference AB38 (0083). Further / full sized images available upon request.
