1854 Pattern Webb & Bonella British Infantry
Officer's Sword (sold) |
An 1854P British infantry officer's sword in very good condition
made by Webb & Bonnella.
In very good order, a fine 1854 pattern British infantry officer's
sword made by quality cutler (Charles Jnr) Webb & (John) Bonella,
sword manufacturers to His Majesty the Kong and His Royal Highness
the Prince of Wales (1869-1887). So this sword was originally owned
by a very social conscious and probably well connected officer.
32 Inch blade in very good condition, a little age wear and general
patination but nothing much, firm in the hilt. The hilt in very
good order retaining a good amount of gilt finish and with its black
fishskin grip in very good order with the twisted grip wire bindings
all present and correct. The steel scabbard is in exceptionally
good condition for its age as well, and the sword sheathes particularly
well with the very last 3mm having a satisfying click into hold
position as it was when the sword was taken by its proud owner all
those years ago.
