This is an unusual example in that the family coat of arms has no motto, and the original owner's initials (cursive "T F") are etched to the forte / ricasso where normally the maker's / cutler's / retailer's details normally go (so, no, no maker's name). This sword would make an excellent home restoration project for someone as the hilt and scabbard are steel, and the blade is in very good condition.

The 32 1/4 inch blade is in very good condition, so light speckles of patina, but these add a nice aged quality to it without ruining the blade in our opinion. Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt with surface rust but good and sound. The grip generally very good, some wear to the fishskin edge, the twisted grip wire generally very good. The scabbard with age and course cleaning one side, but good and sound. The sword sheathes and draws well.

By researching the family coat of arms and initials, it may well be possible to identify the original owner. A great sword for a good price, £500. Please quote item reference number Q04. Further / full sized pictures available upon request. Box 0306-1m (2.083).
