The brass scabbard indicates senior / field officer rank; adjutant (captain), major, lieutenant colonel, colonel. This is a good yet unpretentious sword without any maker / cutler / retailer name to the ricasso, therefore probably made for a retailer's (outfitter's) customer who did not want the retailer name on the blade.

The impressively long 34 3/4 inch blade clearly indicates the original officer was a tall man. Blade very well though minimally etched with Victorian cypher, leaves, etc. , in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The hilt with some age / tarnish (will clean up). The fishskin grip generally very good. The fine copper twisted grip wire bindings also overall very good. The brass scabbard with some minor dings and aging / tarnish is, none the less, very good. The sword sheathes and draws well.

A beauty, well above average. Yours for £700. Please quote item reference number P43. Full sized / additional photos available upon request. Box 0025-1.18 (2.400).
