Early 20C British RN Junior Officer's Sword of Sub-Lieutenant Tom Williams

Sales enquiries

Complete with all weather bad, this Wilkinson made sword is etched to retailer "R.G. James & Co, 13 Queen Street, Portsmouth", with the name of "T Williams" etched to the blade's spine. These junior officer swords with plain pommel and black fishskin grips are much scarcer than normal officer swords, as they were only carried by sub-lieutenants. The later RN sword of Tom Williams can be found here.

The 31 1/2 inch blade is in good condition but with some rust patches, mostly to the edges. Etching still fine. Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt good but with little gilt remaining. The black fishskin grip in good shape generally (some wear) as are the twisted grip wire bindings (one lesser strand on one turn slightly astray). Leather and brass fittings scabbard aged but generally good. The sword sheathes and draws well and the folding guard section locates well onto the scabbard pin. The black all weather bag and inside roeskin bag are aged, but sound. Please note; the photos of him are only for reference and not included with this sword (they are actually included with his later sword).

A nice example and for a named officer. A good good buy for someone at £700. Please quote item reference P41. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 0213-1m (2.234).
