Mid-Victorian British Customs Officer's Sword

Sales enquiries

British Customs swords of this era were not regulated (had no official patterns). Often various naval / boat related swords are confused with each other, for example water police swords. We are certain this is a Customs officer's sword because you can just about still see the British Royal Coat of Arms under Victorian crown on one side of the blade, and what appears to be an anchor the other. The etching is so worn / feint that the photos do not bring this up well, but we have done the best we can. It is a service sword at the very least, because enough of the text of the British Royal Coat of Arms "Dieu et mon Droit" can be seen, as can the lion faintly.

The 28 5/8 inch blade is aged and has pitting, but is sound and firm in the hilt. The hilt is overall good. The original leather grip and twisted grip wire are good also.

Just try and find another! Yours for £225. Please quote item reference P09. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 0191-1m (1.345).
