Boxer Rebellion 1889M Chinese Cavalry Officer's Sword, sold

In very good condition for its age, a very unusual Chinese Forces (Boxer Rebellion) 1889M (Prussian) Cavalry Officer's Sword.

A very unusual and rare sword, to say the least. These Imperial Chinese Forces cavalry swords are rare enough as trooper's sword, but this one is etched, so likely a junior officer's sword. What is more, the maker's name is clearly deliberately misspelled, it says "Wivrshfrc Kirsuhuaunuc Soeingin", clearly for Weyersberg Kirschbaum Solingen. Why? We have no idea! But the sword has age and wear and is certainly no reproduction. You can find a rare museum held (trooper's) sword here.

The 31 1/2 inch blade is well etched, in good condition, period sharpened and firm in the hilt. The hilt with wear / some bending damage, but overall good. The bakelite type grip is worn but in good order. The steel scabbard is a little aged, but still sound. The sword sheathes and draws well.
