Distinct from near-identical "Northern European" swords by token of the fact there is no vertical guard bar on one side, but there is a thumb grip, this is a mid-17th Century English broadsword, the grip a later but still period replacement indicating this sword had a long service life (most original grips have been replaced at some stage). The plain swollen type blade is well pitted in a pleasant sense which shows the forging speck "imperfections" of blades of this era.

The 33 1/2 inch blade is aged, has a rounded point and curves a little for the last 1/7th of the length, but is in very sound if not good condition for its age. There are no visible markings to the blade. Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard with "walloon" type front sections in aged but good general order. The twisted silver metal grip with fine Turks Head ferrules in good order.

A rare sword in well above average condition, yours for only £1250. Please quote item reference O90. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1396-1.18 (2.059).
