Early copper hilted Japanese NCO's Type 95
Shin Gunto Katana, sold |
Very rare (estimated only a few hundred ever made) original early
copper hilted regulation 1935 (type 95) pattern Japanese army nco's
shin-gunto katana, original brass cap scabbard (matching serial
numbers) in very good condition.
A true copper hilted type 95 Japanese NCO's katana; only the early
/ original army swords had copper hilts, later / the vast majority
of the 1935 pattern had aluminum hilts with copper coloured paint
applied. Matching serial numbers 3263 to blade and saya / scabbard.
The 26 1/2 inch (measured from habaki inset to point) is in good
condition, some slight patina, but not much, and firm in the hilt.
The copper hilt in very good condition for age. The saya / scabbard
with the early round copper chape / drag and with matching serial
number to the blade. The sword sheathes and draws well. The locking
mechanism works well too.
