French 1854 Model Naval Marine Officer's
Sword, Sold |
In very good condition, a French 1854 model marine officer's sword,
probably Victorian, marked "Coulaux & Cie Klingenthal".
We understand there are a a number of reproductions of this sword
but these are all badly engraved "Coulaux & Cie Klingenthal
France" (critically with "France" at the end), whereas
this is finely engraved just "Coulaux & Cie Klingenthal"
as it should be.
69.5 cm plain blade is in good condition (there was a lot of old
/ hard / caked on wax protecting it, now removed) and firm in the
hilt. The hilt in very good condition, also the grip and grip wire
bindings. The leather and gilt metal fittings scabbard had some
sign of age (we applied shoe polish of course, and now it looks
very good). The sword sheathes and draws well; there is a gap when
fully sheathed as the scabbard stop that normally sits where the
blade meets the hilt is missing.
A lovely looking sword and in very good condition; we suspect it
was never or hardly used / worn. Please quote item reference number
N04 (1285). Further / full sized pictures available upon request.
