French An XIII Heavy Cavalry Trooper's Sword
& Scabbard, sold |
In very good condition a French An XIII heavy cavalry trooper's
sword with later (1816M) blade and scabbard.
Unusual / rare to say the least. This is an An XIII but with a
later 1816 / 1822 model blade; normally, you find older blades rehilted
into the later model hilts, but rarely do you find an original An
XIII hilt being afforded a later blade. The blade is dated to September
1826. The poinçons on the hilt show service still in 1830.
The impressive 37 1/2 inch spear pointed blade is in very good
condition, the poinçons hidden by the hilt (they would not
be so hidden in an 1816 / 1822 model hilt). Blade firm in the hilt.
The brass hilt in very good condition. The original leather grip
in very good condition; the twisted grip wires are a later replacement.
The steel scabbard is also probably a later replacement. The sword
sheathes and draws well if a little loosely.
If you like rare versions / variants of swords, this is one for
you! A lovely sword. Please quote item reference J03 (1119). Further
/ full sized images available upon request.
