George V Grenadier Guards Presentation Wilkinson Sword, Sold

In overall very good condition, a rare George V Grenadier Guards presentation sword to A E H Villiers.

Presented to Gentleman Cadet A E H Villiers (prize for geography at the Royal Military College) in December 1925, this cadet went on to see active service throughout World War 2 and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Grenadier Guards. The Villiers family having a long association with that regiment.

The blade etched both sides with battle honours, including for World War 1 of course, Grenadier Guards emblem, presentation inscription and George 5th's royal cypher. The blade has some patina patches, mostly towards the point. The blade's spine bearing the serial number 60681, for early 1926. Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt generally good, some aging. The fishskin grip and associated grip bindings in good order. The original leather knot indicating this sword was carried by then Lieutenant Villiers into WW2. Leather field service scabbard in good order. The sword sheathes and draws well.
