Rare Edward 8th British Royal Navy Reserve
Officer's Sword, sold |
In good condition, marked to Edward VIII, a British RNR Reserve
officer's sword by Gieves.
Because of the short reign of King Edward 8th, swords marked with
his cypher are particularly rare. This one is marked to the original
owner, "E S Hutchison R. N. R." on the folding guard.
The 31 1/4 inch blade with the very distinctive Edward 8th Royal
Cypher, ropes, fouled anchor, etc. is in overall good condition,
some rust spots and wear, not too much. Blade firm in the hilt which
retains quite a bit of gilt. Hilt and grip in good condition. Folding
guard works fine and locates properly onto the scabbard pin. Scabbard
overall good to very good. Sword sheathes and draws well. Sword
knot generally good but a little grubby and frayed a little here
and there.
For an Edward 8th naval officer's sword is a very good price. Please
quote item reference number F65 (893). Further / full sized pictures
available upon request.
