1796 Patt. British Heavy Cavalry Officer's
Dress Sword, sold |
In good overall condition for its age, a 1796 pattern British
heavy cavalry officer's sword.
With the ubiquitous "G G" markings to the ricasso and
feint remains of the once fine etching to the blade, this is an
authentic 1796P heavy cavalry officer's dress sword with boat shell
hilt.
The 31 1/4 inch blade has patina and some light pitting, but is
generally sound and firm in the hilt. The hilt retains some gilt;
there are signs of an earlier repair to the join between the boat
shell section and the rest of the hilt. The twisted silver wire
grip is in good condition, though with some movement against the
wooden base (unseen, within); probably could be glued to firmness.
A rare sword at a good price. Further / full sized images upon
request. Please quote item reference number E10 (818).
