Circa 1795 Scottish Light Infantry Officer's Sword

This is a very rare sword indeed. The hilt is the British style for a light infantry officer at the end of the 18th Century, but the blade is clearly for a Scottish officer, the same blade type as used in the much more common 1798 Pattern highland regiment officer's basket hilted broadsword.

The 30 inch blade has a rounded tip, whether this was as a result of making it safe, decay, battle damage, accident or to make the sword suitable for practice, we can not say. But, even with this slight "enhancement", you might want to grab it quick as you are unlikely to ever get a chance at another.

The blade has some aging and an area of inactive rust pitting. The blade is firm in the hilt. The hilt is generally sound to good. The very solid ivory grip has minor losses near the pommel. The twisted grip wire bindings are missing for a third of the grip. Still, a nice sword and again, a very rare one. Our price is £600. Further / full sized images upon request.
