1897 Pattern WW1 / George 5th British Infantry Officer's Sword, sold

In good to very good condition, a WW1 / King George 5th British infantry officer's sword, original owner's initials to blade.

A very nice example with the blade and hilt still bright and clean. Plus, the added benefit of having the original owner's initials "H E" to the blade.

The 32 1/2 inch (7/8 inch width at ricasso) is in overall very good condition, etched with George 5th's royal cypher, etc and original owner's initials; there is no maker's or retailer's name to the ricasso, so this sword was bought through an outfitters. Blade firm in the hilt, the hilt well above average with the guard plating intact. Nice black fishskin grip, some wear to edges, the twisted grip wire bindings are all good. The field leather scabbard complete with frog and straps is aged and the shoe / chape bent where the sword has been left standing upwards for some time.
