Sold Item Notice

We guarantee this WW2 Japanese NCO's shin gunto is authentic, not a later reproduction.

A very good Imperial Japanese non-commissioned officer's katana, with near matching serial numbers (55423 to blade, 55442 to saya / scabbard) and the tsuka (hilt) is in very good condition, most of the original brown paint remaining. Of course, being authentic, everything about the fuchi (grip / guard collar) and bohi (blade groove) are spot on.

The 67 cm blade is in good condition; it has some patina mostly on one side (actually the result of the acid of someone's hand years ago) but this is very light and easily removed if required. Everything is firm, the locking pin works well and the scabbard holds nicely; the blade sheathes and draws very well. The scabbard / saya is in good order and even has some of the original dark khaki green paint remaining if you wanted to respray it. A very good example. Full sized / additional photos available upon request. Please quote item reference number C72 (638).
