1895P Victorian British Infantry Officer's
Sword, India Service, SOLD |
In good condition, an Indian service 1895P British infantry officers
sword and scabbard by Johnstone.
A good example with deep etching by quality manufacturer Johnstone
and highly unusual Victorian royal cypher.
An incredibly long 34 inch blade (for this pattern of sword) with
period sharpened double edged tip area show signs of use. The blade
has excellent etching with highly unusual Victorian royal cypher,
firm in the hilt. The steel hilt is very sound with patina, but
being steel rather than plated steel, it can be cleaned up if desired.
The fishskin grip is good but very worn in places; it is clear this
sword has been held a lot during its service life and compliments
the signs of use to the blade tip section. The twisted grip wire
bindings are still present and correct, all credit to the maker.
The leather scabbard with lower steel shoe is in worn but good order.
The sword sheathes and draws well. A lovely and evocative example.
