WW1 Scottish Gordon Highlanders Basket & Infantry Hilt Wilkinson Sword

Sales enquiries

It is rare to get one of these with both hilts. Etched to the Gordon Highlanders to the blade, and with their badge to the cartouche of the hilt / guard. The serial number is 51179 for 1917, which means this sword is one where there is no record on the Wilkinson sales ledger unfortunately. The sword comes apart courtesy of the pommel nut and thereby the hilts are interchangeable. There is obvious wear and one of the forward facing bars is broken, probably period. This sword came from the estate of the late Alistair Morris, the former MD of Sotheby's Sussex.

The 32 1/2 inch blade in very good condition. Both hilts in good though aged condition, one crack to a forward bar of the basket hilt. The grip generally good but with some wear or moth patches. The leather field scabbard in overall good though aged condition. The frog loop band's stitching has come apart. The sword sheathes and draws well.

A lovely and scarce sword in good condition. Available for £?. Please quote item reference number AC56 (0312). Further / full sized images available upon request.
