These French An XI (French revolutionary year 11) light cavalry Napoleonic sabres are actually much scarcer than the heavy cavalry swords, most likely as many heavy cuirassiers fell at Waterloo and British soldiers preferred the larger heavy cavalry versions as war trophies. This light cavalry sword has the same hilt and scabbard poinçons, so they are likely original to each other. There are no post Waterloo inspection marks so it is very probable this was a Waterloo battle trophy.

The 34 9/16 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The hilt in very good shape. The leather grip is part disintegrating, but there is enough and which is good enough to preserve. The heavy steel scabbard is in very good order. The sword sheathes and draws well.

A very good example, guaranteed authentic; yours for £? (too late,. now sold). Please quote item reference AC46 (0275). Further / full sized images available upon request.
