Edwardian British Infantry Officer's Sword,
Sold |
In overall good condition, an Edwardian (Edward 7th) British Infantry
officer's sword with original officer's / owner's initials.

Etched at the forte / ricasso to sword cutler "Gillott &
Hasell New Burlington Str. London" and with the owner's initials
"A. N. P." to the blade; possibly research with Hart's
Army List may be able to identify that officer.

The 32 3/8 inch blade is in good condition, the etching is quite
feint but all there, and the blade is firm in the hilt. The hilt
with plating loss but overall good. The fishskin grip with some
loss to the edges, the twisted grip wire bindings mostly good, just
a couple of lesser strand turns are missing, other lesser stands
slightly astray. The leather field service scabbard is good but
aged. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Genuinely nice sword with research potential. On sale for £?
(too late, now sold). Please quote item reference number AC31 (0249).
Further / full sized pictures available upon request.
